Constructed on a capped landfill, the Tewksbury Solar + BESS project required an electrical design that preserved environmental protections while supporting renewable energy generation and storage. WSB, through its legacy firm NEO Virtus, provided issued‑for‑construction electrical engineering for the 2.84 MWac solar photovoltaic system paired with a 2 MW AC‑coupled battery energy storage system.

WSB developed the complete AC and DC electrical design, tailoring equipment selection, protection coordination, and grounding strategies to the limitations of a capped site. To maintain landfill cap integrity, the design utilized fully above‑grade cable tray routing and ballasted racking systems, eliminating the need for excavation or subsurface penetrations.

Layout decisions emphasized equipment spacing, accessibility, and long‑term maintainability while ensuring compliance with landfill closure and regulatory requirements. The electrical design balanced system performance with site constraints to support safe operation and future servicing.

The final engineering package met all applicable code and utility standards and supported efficient permitting, construction, and system commissioning in a highly constrained environment.
