Inspect and maintain.

SWAMP© (Storm Water Asset Management Program) is a web-based application that allows for a customized prioritization of annual storm water BMP inspection and maintenance activities while creating a roadmap for storm water infrastructure management.

The application assists in budgeting for inspection and maintenance activities and developing cost-benefit analyses for potential maintenance or improvement projects.  It provides pollutant removal estimates, annual reporting of activities and a calculated response regarding the maintenance schedule for each BMP.

The SWAMP app is user friendly and improves communication with staff, residents and elected officials on the performance and maintenance of any community’s or watershed’s storm water assets.

Data collection & application set-up

Get started by gathering data: construction as-builts, MS4 ponds, drainage areas, field inspection reports, storm sewer maps, and BMPs. This data will serve as the foundation of your program.

Setting priorities

Once all of the data has been compiled, the fun begins. BMPs will be prioritized based on maintenance needs, cost, benefit, pollutant removal efficiencies, and other parameters.

Surveying to create SWAMP action plans

Once the priorities have been identified, surveys will occur. The highest priority BMPs will be surveyed to determine if there are maintenance needs. SWAMP will be updated to include all survey information.

We’ve got an action plan

Now that a SWAMP action plan is formed, a budget can be created. Storm water inspection and maintenance activities can be budgeted based on your CIP, making funds readily available for improvements when you need them.

Let’s construct it

It is time to hire a contractor or staff to perform maintenance activities.

The final leg

Your SWAMP application will be updated to reflect the maintenance activities performed.
