Ohuta Beach Replacement
The Ohuta Beach connects Lake Pepin with the historic downtown of Lake City. The area serves as an important community space within Lake City, hosting a variety of fairs and festivals throughout the year. Previous proposals to improve this public space have raised controversy among the community, with several failed attempts to gain public consensus. The site needed various improvements, including important infrastructure for stormwater management and other utilities. After establishing a strong vision and garnering community support through thoughtful community engagement, WSB was able to successfully move forward with the project.
WSB led the master planning and community engagement for this key location. The build aims to provide great benefit to current and future generations in this community and region. Site improvements include:
- Flexible plaza spaces for concerts, farmers markets, art fairs and staging for marathons
- Pedestrian and vehicular circulation improvements to allow a safer, and more aesthetic, environment for the public’s use of this area
- Lake City’s first ADA compliant accessible play area with interactive fountains
- Major infrastructure improvements for stormwater management and other utilities.
