I-35 Capital Express Central (University)

WSB is proud to play a critical role in the transformative $1.6 billion I-35 Capital Express Central project in Austin, Texas. This initiative involves the complete reconstruction of the interstate. Including the addition of two managed lanes in each direction, the removal of the existing upper level, and the depression of the mainlines one level below ground. Our team is leading the roadway ORD modeling and SYNCHRO development, including the creation of a 4D model. By integrating all project activities into a unified digital environment, we are proactively identifying conflicts and constructability challenges. Significantly mitigating risks on the I-35.

One notable success came when our modeling identified a conflict between proposed bridge drilled shafts and the planned drainage tunnel. Detecting this issue early allowed the tunnel location to be adjusted before bidding. This prevented a costly change order and keeping the project on track. Through innovative modeling and a commitment to precision on the I-35, WSB is helping to deliver a project that will redefine mobility in the heart of Austin.
