The Blake Road project in Edina, Minnesota, stands as a testament to WSB’s commitment to enhancing community infrastructure. Addressing the challenge of heavy peak traffic on this crucial north-south route, the project involved the construction of a new, pedestrian-friendly road that significantly improves traffic flow and pedestrian safety alleviating safety and operations of a complex intersection using a mini-roundabout. The project included many tight constraints, including the proximity to Mirror Lake, that surrounded the project corridor and roundabout area. To provide the goal of creating a multi-modal corridor, WSB used an innovative approach to balance the wider typical section while not negatively impacting environmental features of the area. The project team designed a unique approach to cantilever the trail portion over the water which provided the necessary area to accommodate pedestrians while not taking away the natural habitat surrounding Mirror Lake.

The benefits to the community are substantial. The project not only enhances the daily commuting experience for residents, but also underscores a broader commitment to health, wellness, and community connectivity by creating a multi-modal corridor for recreational activity.
