WSB upgraded the sanitary sewer interceptor system in the Upper West Waller Creek basin to address hydraulic capacity concerns, frequent sanitary sewer overflows, and redevelopment demands. Improvements included replacing approximately 18,280 LF of sewer lines (8-inch to 24-inch diameter), 17 private service relocations, and 1,000 LF of wastewater interceptors using trenchless technology under TxDOT roadways, the railroad, and creek culverts. The project also replaced 2,000 LF of water main and restored 30,000 SY of roadway.

To reduce costs, the design maximized open-cut trenching within City rights-of-way along residential and collector streets. Extensive coordination was required with multiple stakeholders, including City departments, Capital Metro, the University of Texas, TxDOT, Parks, AISD, DPS, and private property owners.

WSB served as prime consultant, providing preliminary analysis, design, easement acquisition, utility coordination, water and wastewater design, traffic control design, permitting, and bid and construction phase services. Unique challenges included boring beneath Airport Boulevard and CapMetro Rail, acquiring easements from the University of Texas, and relocating sewer lines from Upper West Waller Creek, including a segment beneath a strip mall.
