Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation | Bayhorse Mine Restoration & State Park Development

The Bayhorse Mine property, a historic Idaho ghost town impacted by legacy lead and arsenic contamination, was identified by the Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation as an opportunity to preserve the state’s mining heritage while creating a new recreational destination. WSB’s team of experts helped advance that vision by conducting site investigations and risk assessments that secured three Brownfields cleanup grants. The team then developed remedial plans and designed the site’s restoration, including tailings closure, repository construction, slag grading, trail and bridge improvements, parking facilities, stream enhancements, and erosion protection measures. WSB’s team also provided engineering and construction oversight throughout implementation. Today, Bayhorse State Park offers public access to more than 100 miles of trails and historic mining features throughout the Land of the Yankee Fork. Building on that success, our team later designed and oversaw construction of an ATV trail and footpath system connecting the townsite to the historic Skylark Mine and tramhouse, expanding safe access to some of the region’s most significant historic resources.
