The City of Altus, Oklahoma initiated a visionary redevelopment of Altus Lake and Hoyt Shadid Park to enhance recreational opportunities and environmental sustainability. Since planning began in 2016, WSB has partnered with the city to bring this transformation to life.

Our team provided comprehensive construction plans and specifications for dredging and grading the lake bottom, as well as realigning the lake’s perimeter to improve water flow and usability. We designed shoreline protection measures and over one mile of reinforced concrete pipe (RCP) to support long-term infrastructure resilience.

To elevate community access and enjoyment, we developed plans for a 10-foot-wide walking trail, two new parking lots, and a sheet pile retaining wall that creates a deep-water fishing location. Additionally, the 15-acre Hoyt Shadid Park was reshaped using material dredged from the lake, creating a more dynamic and functional public space.

This project reflects WSB’s commitment to sustainable design, community-focused development, and innovative engineering solutions.
