WSB partnered with Xcel Energy to modernize an aging transmission system through a coordinated upgrade effort aimed at strengthening reliability, improving structural resilience, and integrating updated communication capabilities. The work included replacing older wood structures with more durable steel components, installing optical ground wire (OPGW) to support high‑speed communication and advanced monitoring, and enhancing insulators, grounding systems, and conductor performance to ensure safe and efficient operation. Sag tables and staking information were updated to guide precise field installation, and drilled pier foundations were incorporated in areas requiring additional structural capacity.

Environmental and regulatory requirements were addressed through avian protection measures, wetland best management practices, and soil stabilization efforts in sensitive areas. Construction outages were carefully coordinated to reduce system downtime and maintain service reliability.

WSB’s integrated approach modernized essential infrastructure, lowered outage risk and maintenance costs, enabled advanced grid monitoring, and ensured compliance with clearance, rating, and environmental standards.
