Elm Creek Dam Restoration Receives ACEC Grand Award

February 6, 2017

On Friday, January 27 WSB and the City of Champlin were honored to receive the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) Minnesota’s Grant Award at the 50th Annual Engineering Excellence Award Ceremony. The award recipients demonstrated design innovation, problem solving skills, advocacy, and technical leadership.

The 80-year old Elm Creek Dam in the City of Chaplin had served the community for many years, but the structure had deteriorated over time and was identified by the Minnesota DNR as hazardous and in need of replacement. Motorist and pedestrian safety, upstream flood protection, environmental degradation of the Mill Pond, and the channel discharge rate to the Mississippi River were all concerns that were addressed with the project. The City of Champlin, WSB, and many other project partners worked collaboratively to come up a design solution that would improve habitat, water quality, and flood control along the Mississippi River.
