Lamplighter Pond Flood Mitigation Improvements, St. Louis Park

Beautiful homes were damaged and vehicle access limited as residents experienced repeated flooding around Lamplighter Pond in St. Louis Park. The City turned to WSB & Associates, Inc. to alleviate the situation.

WSB staff assisted St. Louis Park in securing $1.3 million in through grant funding from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Flood Protection Program to assist in the construction of these flood improvements.

Design improvements included:

• Expansion of pond size
• Increased habitat and flood storage
• Excavation of bed basin
• Creation of gradually sloped buffer strip
• Replacement of 1960-era lift station
• Establishment of shoreline buffer using native plants

Area residents were included in all phases of the project to ensure community understanding and acceptance of the improvements. They are relieved that heavy rains will no longer pose a threat to their homes, automobiles, and possessions.
