TH 47 Transportation Sub-Area Analysis, Anoka County

WSB was retained by Anoka County and its project partners to address transportation planning and design needs associated with TH 47. This roadway is an important north-south arterial in a rapidly growing area of the County. The project area is from approximately TH 10 north to CSAH 22. In the southern portion of the project area, there is increasing congestion which must be addressed. To the north, there are horizontal/vertical curve deficiencies and associated safety and operational concerns requiring improvements.
WSB worked with the County to identify alignment alternatives in the southern portion of the project area which will improve mobility performance, as well as operational and safety conditions. These alignments have been evaluated considering transportation functionality, social, economic, and environmental (SEE) impacts, and cost factors. In the northern project area, WSB has identified and evaluated alignment corrections to the existing corridor which will improve its safety and mobility characteristics. WSB has worked extensively with the Anoka County travel demand model to project traffic levels on roadways in the project area to refine the facility needs and alignment analyses. The coordination between land use issues and transportation engineering has been a key element of the project. In coordination with Anoka County, WSB has developed and implemented a comprehensive public involvement program which includes a project web site, public meetings, elected official workshops, project newsletters, and other elements.
