Minnesota Twins Stadium High Definition
Laser Scan

Hennepin County selected WSB to provide a high definition laser scan of the proposed Minnesota Twins stadium site in downtown Minneapolis. Topographic survey data was needed on the railroad right-of-way, adjacent to the proposed stadium. This survey data was collected with the laser scanner without the need to enter into the railroad right-of-way. Thirteen other structures that where scanned for this project.

Over 52 million data points were collected in the field in a little over one week. From this point cloud, WSB created 2-D and 3-D line work of the bridge sub-structures and wire-mesh framework of the building faces. The County will utilize this high definition laser scan data for the design and construction of the infrastructure required for the new Twins stadium.

North Branch Well Siting Study and Municipal Production Well No. 5
The City of North Branch had a problem finding large capacity wells and a history of borehole failures. Three existing wells were pumping less than half of what was considered typical for the aquifer, and were also pumping some sand. WSB was tasked to find a solution to these problems.

WSB’s staff geologist discovered bedrock structures that made almost all of North Branch unfavorable for high capacity bedrock wells. However, a sliver of the western edge of town proved to have entirely different bedrock conditions. A new production well was constructed in this area in 2007, and it has pumped more than double the most optimistic estimates without sanding. This new well can pump as much or more water than the City’s four other wells combined, and will save the City the cost of building at least 2 additional production wells (conservatively valued at $1.6M for the pair). In addition, North Branch now has an additional asset: the knowledge of where and where not to build future wells within their City.
