Princeton Bridges and Roundabout
Princeton, MN
WSB & Associates, Inc. teamed with Mille Lacs County and Mn/DOT to design two sister bridges in downtown Princeton. The project included a new bridge on CSAH 29 over the West Fork of the Rum River and an adjacent bridge on TH 95 over the Rum River. The nearby intersection of CSAH 29 and TH 95 was designed as a roundabout by Mn/DOT District 3. Each bridge was designed to accommodate pedestrians on both sides of the bridge. The bridges included cast

The existing bridge on CSAH 29 was dedicated as the Robert C. Dunn Memorial Bridge and was considered historic. Due to its structurally deficient status, capacity, and its scour susceptibility the bridge required replacement. WSB worked with the Minnesota Historical Society and the Army Corps of Engineers to obtain a permit to replace the bridge. Our team was dedicated to replacing the bridge with a bridge that shared the architectural features and of the existing bridges. Architectural relief details, lighting, and precast concrete arches were incorporated in the design to imitate the existing look of the bridges. WSB provided the bridge design and construction plans, CSAH 29 roadway design and construction plans, and public and agency involvement on the design phase of this project.
Both bridges and the roundabout were constructed on a very tight schedule in order to limit the construction impact and road closures in the City of Princeton. WSB provided the contract administration, construction inspection, materials testing, project certification, and traffic control compliance for the construction phase of the job.
