Wetland Inventory Update

Bloomington, MN

WSB & Associates assisted the City of Bloomington in completion of an update to the functions and values of their wetlands during the summer of 2010. The intent of the assessment was to update wetlands that were included in the City's Wetland Protection and Management (WPM) Plan (June 1997), as well as additional wetlands that were assessed in 2000.

The project involved evaluating and classifying the functions and values of 236 wetlands using the Minnesota Routine Assessment Method (MnRAM 3.3). The MnRAM analysis allowed the City to place wetlands into management categories. Although the 1995/2000 data did not assign management classes, WSB was able to determine an approximate change in overall wetland quality by comparing the value of individual functional categories between the 1995/2000 and 2010 assessment periods

A Geographic Information System (GIS) database was used in the development of the plan to provide an interactive map, which links the user to a photo and information about the wetland. The WPM Plan and these updates are intended to be used as a tool for preparing future local ordinances and/or developing management strategies for individual wetlands.
