TH 212 Design-Build Project Receives AASHTO Award

The TH 212 Design-Build Project was selected for the 2007 AASHTO Value Engineering Award for "Most Value Added Proposal" in the Project Delivery Category. The AASHTO Value Engineering Technical Committee Charge Statement strives to promote the awareness and importance of value engineering within all areas of state and federal transportation programs. These awards are given on a biennial basis to agencies that have shown special achievement in providing added value in process improvement, project delivery, construction, or design.
The Design-Build Project is a $238 million construction project to construct new alignment through the communities of Eden Prairie, Chanhassen, Chaska, and Carver. The project consists of 11.75 miles of four-lane divided freeway, 28 bridges, seven interchanges, 10.5 million cubic yards of excavation, numerous noise berms, noise walls, expanded trail system, aesthetic design elements, and many other features. The project has been in the planning stages dating back to the 1950s. The necessary environmental documents were approved in the early 1990s and construction of the first stage of the system, from I-494 to County Road 4, was completed in 2001. Construction is scheduled for completion in October 2008.
WSB was a member of the TH 212 Design Build verification team which provided document control, quality assurance and general project oversight in conjunction with Mn/DOT staff. The team completed plan reviews, developed and executed a quality plan for the co-housed office and provided overall project management assistance to Mn/DOT in delivering the TH 212 Design Build project.
Mn/DOT will receive the award at the AASHTO National Value Engineering Conference in Seattle, Washington on July 18. [ Back ]
