Safe Routes to School Program Funding Available

Safe Routes to School is a new program in the federal transportation bill, SAFETEA-LU, designed to improve the conditions and quality of bicycling and walking to school. The primary goals are to improve safety conditions and promote physical activity for kids. Under this program, the State of Minnesota will receive approximately $8 million over the next five years to distribute for improvements within a two-mile radius of elementary and middle schools. Applications for this year's funding need to be submitted to Mn/DOT by July 6. Futher Mn/DOT guidance can be found at http://www.dot.state.mn.us/saferoutes/index.html.
