Steve Gurney Earns LEED Accreditation

WSB is pleased to announce that Steve Gurney, PE, has become a LEED Accredited Professional. LEED Professional Accreditation distinguishes professionals with the knowledge and skills to successfully steward the LEED Certification process.

“I can assist our clients during the planning and review of a proposed project, both from an owner’s perspective and a review agency’s perspective,” Gurney says. “The LEED principles relating to site design can be incorporated into much

of the work WSB is already doing, especially in the areas of water reuse and reduction of storm water runoff. By understanding the LEED process, I can interact with developers and contractors to integrate LEED principles into the overall development plan so that projects can achieve as many LEED points as possible. There may be situations where a developer decides not to pursue LEED Certification. In this case, many of the LEED principles can still be used to design projects that conserve resources, which, in turn, reduce long-term operating costs.”

Pete Willenbring, Principal and Water Resource Group Manager said, “Steve’s recent LEED accreditation is another demonstration by WSB staff of their personal and professional interest and focus in green building and sustainability. Steve has further demonstrated this by designing and constructing a rain garden at his home, obtaining his Master Gardener certification, and volunteering to educate the public in his capacity as a Master Gardener.”

The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System™ encourages and accelerates global adoption of sustainable green building and development practices through the creation and implementation of universally understood and accepted tools and performance criteria.
