Golden Valley Wetland Dedicated

Dedication Cerimony

On Wednesday, July 11, WSB staff members participated in a ceremony held at the General Mills Nature Preserve. General Mills and the City of Golden Valley were hailed for taking the rare step of creating a significant nature preserve in an inner-ring suburb, just minutes from downtown. The 19-acre area, circled by a half-mile walking trail, is the closest-to-downtown urban spot protected from development by the Minnesota Land Trust.

A major reason for its creation was the repeated flooding of a nearby intersection on Hwy. 55, blocking traffic, which had increased substantially after the General Mills workforce roughly doubled in size earlier this decade. WSB reengineered the area and reconstructed the surrounding streets to direct water into the nature area, much of which is ponds and wetlands. [ Back ]
